How it works

Selling online on Amazon is an easy and effective way to reach millions of potential buyers. Whether you have to sell a little or sell a lot, Amazon provides you the required tools and services to sell online successfully. To sell on Amazon is a simple process. Follow the steps below to know how to sell on Amazon.

Before you register

1. Decide what you want to sell
More than 20 product categories are open to all sellers, and at least 10 more are available only to Professional Sellers.
2. Choose a selling plan
With the Individual Plan, you pay $0.99 (excl. GST) every time you sell an item. The Professional Plan costs $49.95 (excl. GST) per month, no matter how many items you sell. For both plans, Amazon also collects a referral fee on each sale, which is a percentage of the total transaction and varies by product category.
3. Register and start listing
You can use your customer account to start selling, or you can create a new Amazon seller account with your business email. Before you sign up, make sure you’re ready with the following:

• Business email address or Amazon customer account
• Chargeable credit card
• Government ID (identity verification protects sellers and customers)
• Tax information
• Phone number
• A bank account where Amazon can send you proceeds from your sales

After you register

1. List
You can add products to the Amazon Marketplace catalog one at a time, or if you have a Professional selling subscription, you can add large batches of items using bulk tools.

Two ways to list products:
  • List products that are already on Amazon.com.au
  • Indicate how many products you have to sell, condition of the product(s), and shipping options.
  • List products that are not yet on Amazon.com.au
  • 1) Identify UPC/EAN and SKU
    2) List product attributes - for example, title or description
2. Sell
After you list your offers, customers can see them on Amazon.com.au. You have several options for managing orders depending on the number of orders you receive:
  • Manage Orders tool
  • See a list of your orders, and view details about a selected order in Seller Central.
  • Order Reports
  • Receive order fulfilment information for multiple orders by running a single report.
  • Amazon Marketplace Web Service (Amazon MWS)
  • If you have developer services available, and you have a Professional selling plan, consider using the Marketplace Web Service Order API to retrieve information about events (including new orders) in your seller account.
3. Ship
When an order has been placed for one of your products, Amazon notifies you by email as well as in your Seller Central dashboard. If you choose to fulfil orders with Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), Amazon will take care of storage, picking, packing and shipping as well as customer inquiries — or you can handle shipping yourself.
4. Get paid
Amazon deposits payment into your bank account at regular intervals and notifies you that your payment has been sent.
